Cardio Workout Perspiration

Saw this little gem late night. Certainly a ballsy move on Buckley's part, but smart as hell when you stop and think about it. When you're an OTC cough medicine how do you differentiate yourself; it's a commodity as far as most of us are concerned. This 10 second spot worked for me on a couple levels. First off the initial shock made me gag and laugh, making it hard to forget. Secondly, that they openly admit their product tastes awful establishes their honesty - making the claim that "It Works" seem that much more plausible. Variations on this ad include "Public Restroom Puddle", "Trash Bag Leakage", "Used Mouthwash", and "Spring Break Hot Tub Water."

Colour

The Sony Bravia campaign certainly isn't a secret (you know your commercials are a big deal when they each have their own 'Making Of' featurettes). If you haven't seen them I would encourage you to take the time and watch the high-rez versions on their website. They are beautiful.

The bouncy ball spot fills me with such a wonderful wave of melancholic nostalgia that I am nearly moved to tears every time I watch it.

And believe me, the next time I'm in Best Buy trying to decide what TV to drop 5 grand on, you better believe it's going to be on the one that made me cry.

HeadOn

I'm assuming everyone has seen the original HeadOn ad. I thought this was noteworthy because it's not everyday you see a company spoof its OWN commercials.

On a side note, I saw a spoof of THIS spoof on SNL (which I can't find a clip for).

Liberty Mutual

I find this ad to be incredibly touching. I've noticed that practically all big insurance companies are positioning themselves as friendly, genuine, and helpful.. to varying degrees of success ("Are you in good hands?" is getting a little old), but I think this one works great.

By the way, that guy in the first clip would definitely be dead if she didn't stop him - that truck is flying.

Look familiar?

This ad is pretty good, but a total rip-off (I think) of "The Wind" ad (see my first post)- and not nearly as beautifully done.

eBay

I noticed the "shop victoriously" logo on eBay before I saw this ad, and didn't really stop to think about it. Very clever.

Childhood Dreams

I don't know about anyone else, but I sure as hell didn't dream about a "magic screen" as a child. And I don't think I really had "music, pictures, and stories" beyond my Raffie cassette tapes and a copy of Curious George.
